I guess it is time for an update...

Ok, so it has been a while since I have given an update. Life has been a lot crazier than I ever anticipated lately. October was a month filled with a lot of house hunting, work and long commutes. I spent my birthday with one of my favorite people in the world. We went to dinner and had a great night out.

I really hate this picture - but it is the only one I got from my birthday. So I thought I would add it. It is still strange to think that I am now a 30 something... I figured my birthday was a good time to start my latest goal and I started a photo blog where I am documenting each day of the next year in photos. It is proving to be a lot more difficult than I was thinking it would be - it is hard when I don't have kids to use as props all the time :) But I am having fun with it. And hopefully I will get better at my favorite hobby while I am at it! Click here to see my photo blog :)

November was filled with a lot of paper signing and getting things ready to move. I finally closed on my townhouse the week of Thanksgiving and moved in Friday of that week.
I will be sure to post lots of pictures as soon as I get things unpacked and decorated in the next few weeks :)

Thanksgiving was a lot of fun. I spent it with my family - even though I had practically no sleep it was worth it to be able to spend time with my family and my 3 favorite little people (my niece and nephews)

I have a lot to be thankful for and even though it is a little bit late for Thanksgiving - it's never too late to list what I'm grateful for! So here is a list of just a few of the things I'm most thankful for:
  1. Family and friends
  2. a good job that I love
  3. a place that I can call home
  4. coffee and dr. pepper - my favorite forms of caffeine
  5. hoodies - and weather cool enough to wear them :)
Saturday I got invited to go to the Utah vs. BYU game - I was so excited! I froze my ass off but it was so worth it considering that it was the last rivalry game with both teams in the Mountain West Conference. Oh and in case you are wondering... the UTES won.. by 1 point! It was a little too close for comfort - but made it that much more exciting in the end!
On December 1st a good friend of mine gave me tickets to the Jazz game. It has been far too many years since I've been to a game. It was a lot of fun. This couple sat a few rows in front of us and they just made me smile. She was working on her knitting and he was playing games on his phone while they waited for the game to start. Oh, and the Jazz won too :)
I think that about catches things up... Hopefully I will get on the ball and update a little more often -

Photo blog

So, I have finally decided that I will start my photo blog tomorrow. I am piggy backing on a project/idea that a few friends of mine have been doing - but I decided to start it after my birthday rather than start on the new year.  So, starting tomorrow I am going to to take a pictures daily and post them every Sunday. I haven't thought of a catchy name for my little project so if anyone has any fun ideas - let me know. And if you want to join in the photo fun, please do! This should be a fun challenge for the next year. I'm hoping it will help me improve my photo skills and have some fun while I'm at it. I am going to be posting the photos on my photo blog site: http://ashotintime.blogspot.com/ .

Good Old Tv...

A friend of mine posted her 10 favorite tv shows (old and new) and I thought I'd play along this time... TV for me is how I relax after dealing with all those crazy kids all day.. and it is great background noise for grading papers! So, in no particular order...This is a lot harder than I thought it would be! So, here are my 10 favorite TV shows...

All throughout jr. high and high school, like every other girl in this country, I was hooked on none other than....  Yup, you got it... Beverly Hills 90210.

When I was in college it was.... Dawson's Creek - we would all gather in one dorm room, about 20 of us - including guys- to watch it every week. And if we couldn't fit in one dorm room, we would spread out into several and yell across the halls what we thought about what was going on... good times!

And I gotta add a little bit of action into all this drama.... The A-Team totally rocked!

I love crime dramas Law & Order SVU HAS TO BE my favorite of all time. I have seen every episode - at least once... if there is an SVU marathon on TV, and I'm home, it is probably on my TV. Plus, Stabbler is just hot! :)

Since day one I have been HUGE fan of the McDreamy, McSteamy clan on Grey's Anatomy. I again, have seen every episode and actually own most of the seasons... nerd I know, but I love it. It kinda reminds me of when I worked in the OR... of course, I might have stayed in the OR if I worked with guys like McDreamy!

Working random shifts at the hospital and having Netflix available on my laptop has not helped, but rather encouraged my TV viewing.. During one of my summer shifts a few years ago I discovered what has to be the funniest dark comedy I have ever seen. Weeds. I freaking LOVE that show! And I can't wait for the next season to start!

This summer with all the new summer series coming on, I found 2 new shows that I really liked! Covert Affairs - another crime CIA drama, and Rizzoli and Isles - a police crime drama. I really liked Covert Affairs because of the crazy situations she was always getting herself into and getting out of. I couldn't imagine a life like that! Rizzoli and Isles is just funny because you have the extremely dry and sarcastic cop who is best friends with the medical examiner who is insanely intelligent and just plain kooky sometimes- with almost no sense of humor. The two together are just fun to watch!

I also discovered 24 on Netflix. I didn't think I would like it and several people told me I should watch it - and I always told them no. Then I watched the first episode. I was hooked. I saw each and every season and loved it.

Another show that everyone told me to watch but took me forever to actually try was Dexter. I watched the first episode and thought it was so odd - I wasn't sure I'd watch it again. But, I decided to give it another try and watched the second episode. Still thought it was weird - but I was hooked and couldn't stop watching. Again, a dark murder, crime drama. If you haven't guessed yet I like crime dramas! lol!!!

Now it is your turn! What are your favorite TV shows??

My favorite quotes...

Every year I am amazed at some of the things my students say to each other and to me... Here are a few favorite quotes so far....

"You're pretty gangsta' Miss Kent!" This was in response to me telling her what my tattoo means.

Student: "Is that a black joke?"
My response: "Did you just ask that because I'm is white?"
Student: "You're not white Miss Kent, you're Italian!"
- oh, and I should add, this particular student is not even black!

How can you not like teaching when students say silly things like this that really just make you wonder what they hell is really going on in their brains. I always wonder if I was really that stupid when I was that age... and ya, I'm pretty sure I was!

I have survived :)

I have officially survived my first week of school - at my new school. So far so good. I LOVE the fact that I teach only 9th graders because it means I am teaching my favorite subject - geography and 9th graders are a little more mature than 7th and 8th. I really only have one class that is really going to test me. Other than that, I now understand some of the warnings that I received about my new school and am taking the new faculty in stride. They have all been there forever! But, so far everyone has been very kind. So, I'm really looking forward to this coming year - :)

I'm bored....

Ok, so I've been thinking about this for a while now. I'm bored with my blog. My life is pretty boring and I'm sure there aren't many people who read it anyway. So, I either need to find something creative to do with it or just press the DELETE button... I'm still not sure what to do so I'm open to ideas people! :) Any and all feedback is appreciated!!

JacKsoN hOle!

I was lucky enough to spend a week in Jackson Hole - all expenses paid - to attend a conference with the We The People program. It is a program/curriculum for Civics Ed. I went into this thinking that I would go to a few lectures each day then have my evenings free to roam the beautiful Jackson area. Boy, was I wrong!!! It was a very intense-- a grad course on steroids really. Days full of lectures, discussion classes and homework topped off with a 'congressional hearing' where we had to write speeches and present them in front of lawyers and judges from the Jackson area. WOW! It was insane but I learned soooo much!

On Monday night a few of us decided to take a little hike up the hill behind the campus we were staying at. It was a gorgeous day and a beautiful little hike.

The view of the Tetons from the top of the hill
The mood was so bright!!! I love this shot!
And this one too!

And, as usual, I had to take TONS of pictures of flowers... I just can't help it.. they just beg to have their pictures taken!

I don't know what these flowers are called but they are so cool looking!

This one we nic-named the 'little shop of horrors' shot -

I took so many more pics but figured I would stop before this got too long!

Lilies!

One of my favorite things to do during the summer is take pictures of all the lilies in the pond my parents built in their back yard. Lilies are definitely one of my favorite flowers - and so fun to take pictures of. Here are a few of my favorite shots of the summer, so far....

Yellow flowers on the brick wall

White lily - probably my favorite of them all!
Another view of the same white lily
The pink lily :) So pretty!
